Can I take a LEAP course for credit?

Taking a LEAP language course for credit is subject to academic approval, entry requirements, language level test, availability and timetabling constraints. Therefore, you need to check this with your school first.

PhD students cannot take LEAP courses for credit as the credits would not count towards the degree and any additional credits need to be taken as non-credited. Please note that non-credited LEAP courses incur a fee.

Please also not that auditing of LEAP course is not permitted.

Can I take more than one LEAP course?

Credited students may only enrol to a maximum of two LEAP courses for credit (NB: this does not apply to Exchange/Erasmus students). Students may take an additional LEAP course as non-credited, however due to workload, we strongly recommend that you do not pursue this. Students enrolling in more than one LEAP course (credited or non-credited) must discuss this with either their Programme Director or Academic Advisor, to ensure they have considered their choices.
Having taken two or more LEAP courses, may not be used as a reason for mitigation in itself, should you not perform as well as expected. Having taken two or more LEAP courses, may not be used as a reason to request a refund (for paying students/members of public), in itself.

Can I drop my course at any point?

Credited students-

LEAP courses follow the same rules as other units across the university. The deadline to drop full year courses is the Friday of the second week of teaching in Semester One and for semester only courses the deadline to drop the course is the Friday of the second week of teaching in Semester 2 (9th February 2024)

Can I defer my place on the course?

The LEAP refund policy does not allow students to defer their place. Students who do not wish to continue a full year course and request a refund for the 2nd semester fees or chose not to pay it, will not be allowed to re-join a later year and should they wish to enrol on a LEAP course in the future they will pay the full fees and start in September of that year.
