Can I take more than one LEAP course?

Credited students

Students can only take one LEAP course per year for credit. They can also take an additional course as a non-credited student for a fee- see course fees here we recommend that students do not take more than 2 LEAP courses in a year. There are exceptions that can be authorised by PD e.g. East Asian Studies and Exchange students may take more than 1 LEAP course for credit per year. Can I drop my course at any point?

Credited students-

LEAP courses follow the same rules as other units across the university. The deadline to drop full year courses is the Friday of the second week of teaching in Semester One and for semester only courses the deadline to drop the course is the Friday of the second week of teaching in Semester 2 (9th February 2024)

Non-credited students, The University of Manchester staff, members of the public and The University of Manchester alumni

As paying customers, non-credited students, The University of Manchester staff, members of the public and The University of Manchester alumni, can withdraw from the course at any point, but will only be entitled to a refund if the request is made in writing in line with the time frame outlined in the refund policy.

Can I defer my place on the course?

The LEAP refund policy does not allow students to defer their place. Students who do not wish to continue a full year course and request a refund for the 2nd semester fees or chose not to pay it, will not be allowed to re-join a later year and should they wish to enrol on a LEAP course in the future they will pay the full fees and start in September of that year.

Am I entitled to a refund?

Changes of the course or refunds may be requested by writing by 5pm on Friday of Week 2 of the course for full year courses, and by 5pm on Friday of Week 1 for one semester courses. We will not provide any refund if the request to withdraw is after these dates.

Paying students may be eligible for a partial refund if they wish to withdraw from a full year course before the start of semester two. We will not provide any refund if the request to withdraw is after 5pm on the Friday of Week 2, semester 2.

Members of public who pay in two instalments will get a refund for semester 1 fees if requested by 5pm on Friday of Week 2 of semester 1 and by 5pm on Friday of Week 1 of semester 2. We will not provide any refund if the request to withdraw is after these dates, and we do not provide partial or fractional refunds.

Refunds will incur an administrative charge of £30 in all cases.
