Prehistory for primary schools
Prehistory is now on the national curriculum, and experts at The University of Manchester have compiled engaging learning tools for primary schools to bring the subject to life.
Prehistory might seem like a daunting subject to bring to primary school pupils, as there are not always resources available to get classes engaged with people living thousands of years in the past.
A team of Archaeologists at The University of Manchester's Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology and Egyptology have created a set of free resources that can help bring prehistory to life in the classroom, including:
- Information booklets
- Comics
- 3D printed artefacts
- Digital resources
- Classroom activities that teachers can use to create flexible and detailed teaching.

How to get started
To access our free Prehistory to Primary Schools resources pack, you will be asked to complete a short survey.
Schools located in the Greater Manchester region with easy access by public transport from the university can also arrange for an archaeology student ambassador to deliver a one-hour workshop introducing Prehistory to the class. Please contact us on prehistorytoprimary@manchester.ac.uk to arrange.
