Exams offered by the "Prüfungszentrum Goethe-Institut" at the Language Centre of The University of Manchester are internationally recognised and highly regarded by German employers and grant-awarding bodies.

Examination information

The next exam period is May/June 2026.

Dates for May/June 2026:

  • Goethe Zertifikat C1: Friday, 22 May 2026 (date guaranteed)
  • Goethe Start Deutsch 1 (A1): Friday, 12 June 2026 (subject to numbers)
  • Goethe Zertifikat B2: Friday, 29 May 2026 - CANCELLED
  • Goethe Zertifikat B1: Friday, 5 June 2026 - CANCELLED

The examination will start at 10am in the morning, with students required to arrive at 9.30am. The examination will take most of the day up to early / later afternoon, depending on the number of candidates. Please note they will not go ahead if there are not enough candidates. Enrolment

The enrolment period will open in March 2026* and will close in April* 2026 at 4pm. 

*Exact dates to be confirmed. 

Enrolment form for internal and external candidates. An external candidate is anyone who is not currently on a LEAP German or German Studies (GERMXXXX) course.
