Funding Opportunities

SALC Postdoctoral Fellowships Workshop, 22 April 2024, 12:30pm-1:30pm

This online workshop, held on Microsoft Teams, is open to Humanities researchers who are interested in applying for an externally funded postdoctoral fellowship with the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at The University of Manchester.

The session, co-hosted with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Arts and Languages (CIDRAL), will cover three popular, multi-year postdoctoral fellowship schemes to which SALC is supporting applications: The Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship; the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship; and the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship. These schemes are all tenable on a full-time basis, and each represents an excellent opportunity for Early Career Researchers to develop their academic careers.

Attendees will hear from academics who have been involved in these schemes as supervisors and/or reviewers, current fellows, and our Strategic Funding & Impact Team. Topics covered will include the application process, what makes a successful application, 'Why Manchester?' and fellows' experiences of applying for their award.

Participants will receive a meeting link when they register. You can register here.

Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship

The University of Manchester’s School of Arts, Languages and Cultures (SALC) welcomes applications to the 2024 round of the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship.

This scheme offers exceptional career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but who have a proven track record of research.

Fellowships are tenable for three years on a full-time basis, providing a salary and also research expenses of up to £6,000 per year. Around 145 fellowships are available this year.

Fellows will undertake a significant piece of publishable work, which must be distinguishable from their PhD project, during the period of their award.

SALC is one of the largest interdisciplinary arts and humanities schools of its kind in the UK. Consult our website for information on our subject areas, staff specialisms and research centres and institutes. Those interested in applying will need to contact a University of Manchester academic who can act as a sponsor for their application.

SALC has had consistent success in this scheme, including five awards in 2022.
