Indigenous youth cultures and new media in Latin America

Indigenous youth cultures and new media in Latin America is a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and based at The University of Manchester.

Three women taking a photograph of a man and woman smiling and posing together.

It explores how young people in Ecuador, Argentina, and Chile, who identify as Kichwa and Mapuche, use social media to create, share, and consume various cultural products, including music, visual art, and design.

It also investigates how these activities help them develop identities that are informed by the past and oriented toward the future.

The project includes collaborations with academics from Ecuador, Argentina, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom and Indigenous artists and performers, with whom we will organise public events in Otavalo (Ecuador), Bariloche (Argentina), and Manchester (United Kingdom).
