Professional Development Workshops

These workshops are given by invited established professionals who share their experiences with students through structured workshops and activities.

Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey - 2016

We collaborate with the University of Manchester's Careers Service to offer a series of preparation events including:

  • Careers using Languages - a series of presentations by representatives from GCHQ, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and international companies which recruit languages specialists.
  • Enterprising Futures: Find out what it takes to run a business - an opportunity to find out what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur and to learn about the help and support available to individuals interested in starting up a business, now or in the future.
  • Getting into Translation and Interpreting - a day-long careers advice event tailored to the translation and interpreting professions.

Invited contributors to these events include numerous freelance translators, interpreters and subtitlers.

Work experience

We offer students the opportunity to experience some workplaces at first hand, through visits to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the European Commission in Brussels, and translation companies in the UK.
