Exceptional Performer Entrance Bursaries 24/25

The Department of Music will provide first-year undergraduate and masters bursaries to support students who have demonstrated exceptional levels of achievement in their instrumental and/or vocal studies.

First Year Undergraduate Performer Bursaries

The Exceptional Performer Entrance Bursaries will awarded at £1000 in the first year of study (2024/25 academic year), paid direct to students in two instalments.

Eligibility

You must have submitted an application for either:

You will be automatically considered for a bursary if you meet the following criteria:

  • 2 x Grade 8 qualifications in performance, both preferably at Distinction
  • Diploma in Performance in one instrument/voice

If you do not yet meet these criteria but will meet them by August in the year of your intended study, you will also be considered for a bursary. You must inform the admissions office of any relevant practical examination successes achieved after submission of your UCAS form and should, where possible, indicate on your UCAS applications where these practical examinations are pending.

  • If these details are not provided on the UCAS form, you must inform the admissions office prior to interview by emailing the relevant details to ug-music@manchester.ac.uk 

If you are working at standards equivalent to those set out above but who have not taken formal examinations at the stipulated level and will not be doing so before August in the year of your admission, you may submit a video in lieu of these qualifications.

  • Students working at the standard of Grade 8 Distinction on two instruments/voice must submit a 10-minute video recording for each of their instruments /voice.
  • Students working at the standard of ABRSM diploma must submit a 10-minute video recording on their principal instrument/voice.
  • Any videos must be submitted to the admissions office prior to the interview date.

Notification

Any applicant who is offered a bursary, or a place on the reserve list for bursaries, will be informed in their offer letters. Places are offered in the normal way following interviews, which take between November and February each year.


MusM Performance Studies Home Part-Fee Bursaries

Several Masters Performance Studies Bursaries will be awarded as tuition-fee reductions for the academic year 2024-25.

Eligibility

You will be automatically considered for a bursary if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must have submitted an application for MusM Music (Performance Studies) before 1 July 2024 and hold an offer to study at The University of Manchester.
  • You classify as a ‘home’ student for tuition fee purposes.
  • You are to undertake full-time or part-time study.

Further Details

  • This award can be held alongside other awards.
  • The award will be automatically put toward tuition fees. It cannot be used as a maintenance payment.
  • The award is to be used for the coming academic year only. It cannot be deferred.
