Academic visitors

The Music department frequently hosts visiting academics and research students from a wide range of institutions worldwide.

Scholars

Visiting scholars come to Manchester to visit the University for periods of between one month and a year, via the University's visiting scholar scheme (please note that a fee is payable for this service). This allows them to make full use of the University's archival and library resources.

We also welcome them fully into our research community in the department: they are actively encouraged to participate in our research seminars and fora and our creative-practice research events, as well as postgraduate taught classes and workshops where space allows.

Most of our visiting scholars receive funding for their visit from their host institutions or external funders, but we also welcome applications to the University's own annual Simon and Hallsworth Visiting Professorships scheme. This allows internationally eminent scholars nominated by the department to visit the University for periods of between 2 and 12 weeks to participate in its research and teaching.

If you wish to enquire about coming to the Manchester Music department as a visiting scholar, please contact our Research Support Office at salc.research@manchester.ac.uk

Postgraduate research students

The University also operates a scheme allowing postgraduate research students to visit for up to a year (note that a fee is payable for this service). This is often so that they can make use of specific archival and library resources, and can benefit from the specialist expertise of our internationally renowned academic staff.

Prospective visiting research students should contact phdsalc@manchester.ac.uk in the first instance.
