Course: MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies, Full Time, 2014-15

I came to the University of Manchester as an international student from Toronto, Canada. The MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies programme was the perfect next step to build on my Fine Art History background and progress toward my interest in museum education. The AGMS programme was extremely unique when choosing to go abroad as it combined theoretical studies with practical experience.

In addition to the fundamental academic knowledge gained within the first semester, the second semester allowed for the freedom to choose courses such as the Creative Learning & Education module, which focused on my personal interests. My work placement at the Manchester Central Library allowed for me to realise how my knowledge of museological practices could cross within other cultural institutions. The skills I gained from this experience are immeasurable.

Learning about the vast array of roles within a museum was very beneficial. Learning alongside fellow colleagues and classmates with backgrounds, knowledge and aspirations within different fields allowed for me to absorb other perspectives and for an exchange of advice and ideas.

Living in Manchester was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The city is truly special and allowed for me to experience such a dynamic and thriving cultural environment.

The AGMS programme allowed for me to create the perfect foundation to further pursue my career within the museum sector. I am now a Freelance Educator within multiple galleries in and around Toronto, Canada including the Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
