German (Post-intermediate): Peter Ruddy

Peter, from the UK, studied Post-intermediate German at the University Language Centre (ULC).

Why did you choose to study a language at The University of Manchester?

Peter Ruddy

I chose Manchester because it has the best languages department in the city and the fees are reasonable.

Apart from class time, how much time did you spend a week on your studies?

About ten hours.

How did you find your course in terms of level?

The level (B2.1) was appropriate for my understanding of the language to date.

I have already completed A2 and B1 at the University.

What did you most enjoy about your course?

The challenge of learning something fairly complicated at my age. I find (and found) it both stimulating and rewarding.

Have you been able to put your newly acquired language skills to use outside the classroom? If so, please tell us how.

I have had some Skype conversations with German friends.

What advice would you give to someone intending to study a language at the University Language Centre?

Just go for it. If you have the time, it is time well spent and a fulfilling experience.
