Dominique Myrand

Educational Programs and Public Development Coordinator

Course: MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies, Full Time, 2013-14

I am from Montreal (Quebec, Canada) and decided to move to Manchester for the Art Gallery and Museum Studies course in 2013. I really wanted to go to The University of Manchester because the AGMS programme was the one that best combined theoretical knowledge to practical and concrete experience in the museum sector.

Being an international student, I took every opportunity I could to make the most of my stay in Manchester and in the UK. I really enjoyed the field trips we did during our courses (Oxford, Birmingham, London and Liverpool). Moreover, I was thrilled to be selected for my work placement at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool. It allowed me to discover the cultural vibrancy of another city in the North-West of England. During my placement as Research and Exhibition Assistant, I carried a very wide range of tasks. I was involved in all the stages of the development of an exhibition, from the conceptual phase to the installation. As well as allowing me to apply my research and communication skills in a professional context, this placement allowed me to acquire a lot of technical skills. Finally, for the Museum Policy and Management course I had the chance to go to Amsterdam to do a branding case study of the newly refurbished Rijksmuseum.

I am now Educational Programs and Public Development Coordinator for Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, an international contemporary photography biennial in Montreal (Canada).
