Welcome message from Dr Charles Insley

Dr Charles Insley's welcome message summary

Welcome to the History Department's 2021-22 virtual Course Fair. Below you find the links to the course unit offerings next year for Levels 2 and 3, as well as guidance you will need in preparing for the 2021-22 academic year. All students should start with the short introductory video from our Head of Department, Dr Charles Insley. Students who will be starting L2 next year should go on to the introductory video from the L2 Undergraduate Programme Director, Dr Eloïse Moss; students starting L3 should view the video from the L3 Undergraduate Programme Director, Prof Ana Carden Coyne.

Next, you should view the video specifically for your level in your programme. The Undergraduate Programme Directors have made videos for History Honours at Level 2 and Level 3 respectively. Joint Honours students should view the appropriate video from their programme liaison officer: History and Languages: Dr Stefan Hanss. Politics and Modern History: Prof Jean-Marc Dreyfus, History and Sociology: Professor Yang-wen Zheng, and Modern History and Economics: Prof Jean-Marc Dreyfus. They will talk you through the rules that apply to you in choosing your modules for next year.

After that, at your leisure, you can browse the course unit offering and prepare your choice so that you are prepared when course unit selection opens 23 August for L3, 26 August for Level 2. Find more info on selection, esp. for joint honours students on the L2 and L3 pages respectively.

On June 24, some history staff members will be available for a course fair and Q&A Zoom session 12-1pm for students going into Level 2, 1-2pm for students entering L3/4. The Undergraduate Programme Directors and Liaison Officers will be available for consultation, possibly also some of the Course Unit Directors.

You can also contact your current Academic Advisor, both about your plans for next year and about how the end of this year went via email to arrange a conversation online or even on campus (at the discretion of the advisor). You can also contact course unit directors of the course units you are interested in taking via email and possibly arrange an appointment. We would like to touch base with you.

Best wishes,

Dr Charles Insley
