Orongo, sea and rocks in archaeological site of interest

The Archaeology research community at Manchester provides a lively and innovative arena for the work of academic staff, postdoctoral scholars and research students.

With a wide range of facilities, including one of the greatest research libraries in the UK complementing our in-house Archaeology and Art History reference library, it’s safe to say that our quality of work is among the best in the world.

The combination of theoretical sophistication, a concern with the contemporary social and political context of the discipline, and a commitment to practical field and laboratory based investigations provides a unique character to our research.

This makes our research culture unusually coherent and, as a result, rather than being divided into a series of mutually-exclusive research clusters, we have a set of overlapping themes.
