14 July 2017
The University is a proud Silver Supporter of the biennial Manchester International Festival, the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events. This year’s festival ran from 29 June to 16 July 2017 at venues all over the city.
The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures led the celebrations to showcase the University’s ‘Creative Campus’ at the Festival. The event, “Celebrating the Creative Campus and Beyond” took place in the Glass House, in Festival Square, and showcased the collaboration between the University and the creative and cultural sector.
The event featured reflections and discussion from a panel of distinguished guests, including author and University Professor of New Writing, Jeanette Winterson and historian and University Professor of Public History, Michael Wood.
Professor Alessandro Schiesaro, Head of School of Arts Languages and Cultures, The University of Manchester said: "The University of Manchester and its School of Arts, Language and Cultures are leading actors in the creative economy in the Manchester area as well as nationally and internationally. The event was both a celebration of what we have been able to achieve so far and a public commitment to strengthening and broadening our interaction with the creative and cultural sector in Manchester and beyond."
