Vona Groarke Wins The Pigott Poetry Prize

Senior Lecturer Vona Groarke has been awarded the Pigott Poetry Prize 2017 with her collection entitled Selected Poems.

The Pigott Poetry Prize is awarded for a published collection of poetry by an Irish poet and is sponsored by Mark Pigott KBE who stated that “It is a blessing to be able to support this wonderful literary award and recognise the leading poets of Ireland. I would like to congratulate our adjudicators Lavinia Greenlaw and Deryn Rees Jones for selecting this year’s shortlist which showcases the beauty, diversity and strength of Irish Poetry”.

Vona was announced as the winner during Listowel Writers’ Week. The event welcomes a host of Irish and international poets, playwrights, novelists, short story writers, artists, musicians, friends and sponsors to the Listowel Arms Hotel to celebrate the wonderful literary culture that that is synonymous with the town of Listowel.

Award winning author Richard Ford travelled to Listowel to officially open the 46th edition of the festival.
