Exams offered by the "Prüfungszentrum Goethe-Institut" at the Language Centre of The University of Manchester are internationally recognised and highly regarded by German employers and grant-awarding bodies.

Examination information

The next exam period is May/June 2026.

Dates for May/June 2026:

  • Goethe Zertifikat C1: Friday, 22 May 2026 (date guaranteed)
  • Goethe Zertifikat B2: Friday, 29 May 2026 (subject to numbers)
  • Goethe Zertifikat B1: Friday, 5 June 2026 (subject to numbers)
  • Goethe Start Deutsch 1 (A1): Friday, 12 June 2026 (subject to numbers)

Please note that these dates are provisional until confirmed in October/November 2025.

The examination will start at 9am or 10am in the morning and take most of the day up to early / later afternoon, depending on the number of candidates. Please note they will not go ahead if there are not enough candidates. See here for information on exam fees. 

Enrolment

The enrolment period will open in March 2026* and will close in April* 2026 at 4pm. 

*Exact dates to be confirmed. 

Enrolment form for internal and external candidates. An external candidate is anyone who is not currently on a LEAP German or German Studies (GERMXXXX) course.

Fees: 

All fees to be confirmed by end of November 2025.
